Random Pictures 9-19-08

Yes, that is my husband and I riding Gavin's go-cart. His little, bitty, go-cart, I might add! The kids and I were in the kitchen getting ready to eat dinner, and we heard Gavin's go-cart. Next thing I know, here comes Vern, all scrunched up, around the corner. Of course, the kids thought this was VERY funny, and gave up any hope I had of them taking more than one bite of their food. I have to admit, seeing Vern, who is, like, one of the LEAST silly people I know, drive by in this tiny little go-cart, was pretty funny. I definitely wasn't expecting it. He said he just kept thinking about Josh saying he drove Payne's, and had to try it. This of course, meant that I had to climb in, too. Man, I'm getting old! That's hard on the hips when you have to spread your legs that wide and are bumping, pretty hard at times, over the ground. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get out! I was also sure that I was going to flip, but I didn't. I decided that we need to buy an adult one. I think it would be fun!! So Vern and I got to try out Gavin's birthday present along with everyone else! I look hot, don't I??!!

So, isn't this THE cutest backpack EVER??!! We got it in the mail yesterday, and I was SOOOO excited!! I've been waiting for almost two weeks! Then, of course, I looked at the back........
which is also really cute. After seeing this little tiny zipper, I wasn't to optimistic. Now, I know she's only in preschool, but I need something that I can send a change of clothes in and they bring home a lot of projects. I knew it wasn't going to be very big, but this was TINY!! It's just so darn CUTE!! My little Lakin would be so adorable walking into school with her Blabla bag on ( maybe it would distract the eye from her crocks.... with socks!). Then I opened the zipper, thinking that we would just carry any bigger projects, we'd have to with her other bag, too. But then I saw the inside.....

I know it's hard for you to see in this picture, but what you do see, is pretty much it. It's more like a VERY small play purse inside than a backpack. It would be great for her to carry around some money or snacks, but not papers from school. I considered the idea of letting her keep it, just for that purpose..play. It's just CUTE! Unfortunately, this was on the higher end of price for a backpack. I was 100% okay with this as a BACKPACK, but not for a play bag.... I don't think. As you can see, I haven't made a for sure decision. I know I'm going to have to get her another bag, but we've already decided on one that's still cute ( we can get her name on this one) and looks bigger ( I hope!). And it's a little more than $20 cheaper. So it seems reasonable to trade this for that..... but this one is SO much cuter! I keep thinking, it's already payed for, we won't even notice if we keep it. Is it worth the hassle to send it back?? Then again, the other, lesser seen, more financially responsible part of me, knows I should mail it back. I hate not having millions and buying whatever I want!!:( I KNOW we don't need to keep it if we're not going to be able to use it. Just like I know that Lakin won't really carry it around ( outside the house) like a purse. But I like it, darn it! Lakin doesn't care if it goes back. She's already decided it's to big for her. This sucks..... I know it will be going back to company kids ( I think they should just let me HAVE it), but I'm not happy about it. So I took some pictures so I can remember the once (briefly) owned, SO cute, backpack. That Lakin never took to school. And of course I had to show all of you.

Gavin got his mid-term grades this week, and for those of you, like myself, who are not familiar with 1st grade grading, an S is equivalent of an A. Since this is the only letter that I've seen ( oh, he got an S- once on a paper), I'm not exactly sure what other letters that there are. Hopefully, I don't have to find out! In preschool and kindergarten, they used + and -. I have no idea when they switch to actual letters, maybe 2nd? Who knows. Anyway, as you can see, Gavin is doing wonderfully. I'm so proud! Let's hope he keeps it up until his report card! I told him he can have 50 cents for every S on his actual report card. I imagine as he gets older and realizes 50 cents is hardly anything, I'll have to increase the mula. Maybe when he starts getting letters, I'll start giving dollars! I'm also sure that by the time Jr. high and high school starts we'll be increasing it even more. But they do have to work a lot harder for those A's, then. Now, I know that there is different opinions on money for good grades, but the way I see it, every little bit of encouragement helps when it comes to getting kids to really work hard for their grades. Even if that means that they are working to get money, at least the goal is reached. So for those of you who are against this type of, bribery, shall we say, sorry!! I have a hunch it will come in very handy in my household in a few years! Super job, Gavin!! He's so proud of himself ( as he should be)!
Awwww.... look at that toothless grin:) It's cute now, but that will end soon when those big, giant, adult teeth come in. Isn't it funny how weird they look in their little mouths? I think that they should fall out later, so they don't look so, well, large. Anyway.... the large smile is a result of getting to shoot his BB gun, one of the gifts he received at his party. I wasn't sure how much he would enjoy it yet, just because Gavin isn't like most 7 year old little boys in some ways. I was wrong!! He loves it! Thanks Tracy! I'm ( being his mother,of course) a little weary, but Vern doesn't seem to think it's anything to worry about. He says he was Gavin's age ( maybe younger) when he got his. Of course, Vern was a little bit more of a boys boy, too. Anyway, the rule, of course, is that either Vern or myself has to be outside with him and it gets put up, out of reach, when not in use. I know it's only BB's, but ya never know.... remember the Christmas story? " You're gonna shoot your eye out!!!....." It's a Red Rider, too. Anyway, this was his first time shooting it, he was aiming at cans, missing, but trying. If he stood real close, he could hit them. I tried, to, and much to my husbands disappointment, hit both cans on the first try. HA!! Last night, he sat cans on top of the wood pile, and shot them down... what fun!

There is no real reason I'm putting these pictures of Emma up... they really aren't even all that cute..... just look at them anyway.

P.S. I am beginning to get offended over no one leaving comments but Jami. No one. Kathy used to, but now not even her. You all know you have SOMETHING to say about my blogs..... I want to hear it! Even if your criticizing my bribery! I feel so unloved!! You don't have to sign in, you can leave it under anonymous. You send me e-mails about them... leave me comments so I feel important!! P.P.S. I will send out thank yous (well, Gavin will), for the party. I just have to buy some darn cards first. This weekend! I promise!! P.P.P.S I really think someone (other than myself) should have a Halloween party this year... any volunteers?????
